In standard Odoo functionality, serial numbers are only printed on the Put in Pack label when done manually. This presents a tracking challenge when packages are sealed and secured because once the paperwork is removed, there is no way to verify the contents inside. This feature solves this issue by enabling automatic printing of the package content label before validation, ensuring traceability even after sealing.

With this feature, warehouse operators can generate and print content labels with serial numbers before a package is validated. These labels can be placed on the exterior of the package, allowing warehouse staff, shippers, and recipients to identify the contents without opening the package.

This automation improves the efficiency of warehouse operations, ensures compliance with inventory tracking standards, and reduces errors in shipping and receiving processes.

Key Features

  1. Automatic Package Content Label Printing – Generates labels containing serial numbers and product details before validation.
  2. Pre-Sealing Traceability – Ensures that package contents remain accessible even if external paperwork is removed.
  3. Reduces Manual Effort – Eliminates the need to manually generate and print serial number labels.
  4. Enhances Warehouse Efficiency – Helps streamline packing and shipping processes.
  5. Improves Order Accuracy – Reduces the chances of shipping incorrect products by providing a quick content reference.
  6. Works with Sealed Packages – Ideal for packages that are strapped, wrapped, or secured where reopening is not feasible.

Example Use Case

  1. Scenario: A warehouse team is processing multiple shipments where each package contains serialized products.
  2. Process:
    1. When items are placed into a package, a Package Content Label is automatically generated before validation.
    2. The label includes serial numbers, product names, and quantities inside the package.
    3. The package is sealed and strapped securely with the label placed on the outside.
    4. If paperwork is lost or removed, the recipient can still verify the package contents by scanning or reading the content label.
  3. Outcome:
    1. The warehouse can track and confirm package contents without opening them.
    2. Reduces the risk of shipping errors and missing information.
    3. Improves customer confidence by ensuring accurate package labeling.

Benefits

  1. Prevents Lost Serial Number Data – Ensures serial numbers and package details are available even after validation.
  2. Enhances Logistics Accuracy – Reduces shipment errors by providing clear package content information.
  3. Optimizes Warehouse Processes – Reduces the need for manual tracking and increases packaging efficiency.
  4. Complies with Tracking Standards – Ensures that all packed items can be traced without opening the package.
  5. Reduces Packing & Shipping Mistakes – Minimizes errors caused by missing or misplaced paperwork.

Conclusion

The Package Content Label Before Validation feature significantly enhances warehouse efficiency and traceability by ensuring serialized product data is always available, even when a package is sealed. By automatically printing package content labels before validation, businesses can improve their inventory management, minimize errors, and ensure accurate tracking of shipments.
