In Odoo’s standard behavior, Manufacturing Orders (MOs) created through Replenishment or Make to Order (MTO) processes automatically move to the Confirmed or In Progress stages. However, certain businesses require manual review or planning before allowing the MO to proceed.

The Draft Manufacturing Orders for Replenishment & MTO feature introduces two checkboxes in Silverdale SME Settings that offer control over the behavior of these MOs:

  1. Draft MOs when replenished?
When enabled, any MO created via reordering rules or manual replenishment will stay in the Draft stage, requiring manual confirmation.
  2. Draft MOs when MTO?
When enabled, any MO triggered by a Sales Order via Make to Order (MTO) will be created in Draft.
  3. If both checkboxes are selected, all MOs, regardless of their origin (replenishment or MTO), will remain in Draft until a user manually confirms them.

This offers full planning control, especially useful when:

  1. Stock availability needs verification.
  2. Custom components need to be added.
  3. Production needs to be manually prioritized.

Example Use Case

A manufacturing company uses MTO for customized furniture and replenishment for standard parts.

  1. They enable "Draft MOs when MTO?" to ensure every customer-specific order is manually reviewed.
  2. They leave "Draft MOs when replenished?" disabled so standard components are confirmed automatically.

Later, they decide to also review replenishment orders due to increased quality checks, so they enable both options. Now all MOs—whether from Sales or stock rules—require a planner's approval.

Key Benefits

  1. Improved Production Control
Gives planners full authority over what gets produced and when.
  2. Error Prevention
Avoids accidental confirmations of incomplete or incorrect MOs.
  3. Custom Workflows
Supports businesses with strict QA or review processes.
  4. Enhanced Visibility
Allows review of materials, components, and planning before execution.
  5. Flexible Setup
Choose behavior for either MTO, Replenishment, or both.

Conclusion

The Draft Manufacturing Orders for Replenishment & MTO feature empowers manufacturing teams to maintain oversight over production. With manual confirmation enabled for specific flows, businesses can ensure quality, accuracy, and readiness before initiating the manufacturing process—without disrupting automated supply chain logic.
